This is what Soup to Nuts looked like in 1957:

A fire destroyed Crivitz’s original Drug Store around 1952 so this building was constructed to replace it. Soup to Nuts still has the original LIQUID CARBONICS Soda Fountain and is using the unit to make Ice cream treats just like they did in the `50’s.
In 1972 Doug & Joyce Carriveau purchased the Rexall Drug Store and renamed it “The Doug Store”.

The Doug store developed a reputation for great Malts and Minnetonka moccasins. Even though Doug and Joyce sold the store in 1987 we have customers remembering it as the Doug Store. When it was sold the name was changed to “The Cedar Shack”.

Over time, the Cedar Shack fell into disrepair and eventually was in desperate need of a face-lift. It operated until Feb 2003 when it was purchased by Jerry & Cindy Herrell.
The Herrell’s embarked on an ambitious remodeling project. They immediately gutted the entire interior except the old-fashioned soda fountain, counter and stools. They totally replaced all plumbing, electrical, heating, air conditioning, plate glass, lighting, and wall and roof treatments. The bathrooms were done in black & white ceramic with red trim (right out of the Betty Boop era). Outside the roof was replaced, awning added to the front and a stamped concrete “Husbands patio” was installed by the new outside serving window. Here are some pictures of the final product:
